In many countries the amount of crime is increasing. What do you think are the main causes of crime? How can we deal with those causes?

Sample Answer:

These days, the number of crimes is rising around the world. From my point of view, I believe that this is mainly due to the increase of the deprived population, and the widening of the gap between the rich and the poor in terms of life quality. The most efficient way to tackle this problem is by giving the poor the help they need in order to be able to support themselves and their families in an honorable way.

One of the main reasons for numerous problems around the world is poverty, and the spread of criminal activities is no exception. This is clear because the majority of the crimes are committed by economically disadvantaged individuals, and mostly in deprived areas of big cities. In other words, a citizen who is earning enough money is unlikely to steal. On the other hand, if someone is deprived of their basic needs and they spot an unprotected woman wearing jewelries in a dark street, it is highly probable that they will assault her.

In order to solve this issue, the government should focus its efforts to provide a better lifestyle for those living in poor areas. Instead of spending valuable resources in locking down criminals, which is only a short term fix. In other words, instead of allocating funds to building correction facilities, they should build schools, hospitals, or develop the infrastructure where it is needed the most. For instance, in the last 10 years, the USA spent more than 2 billion dollars in building new prisons, which is in my opinion a waste of money that could have been used otherwise to fight this cause.

To summarize, instead of fighting criminal activities by punishing criminals, the government ought to deal with the root of the problem, which is poverty. By helping its underprivileged subjects to provide a better life for themselves and their close ones.
