Do the disadvantages of international tourism outweigh the advantages?

Sample Answer:

Whereas international tourism begets ample benefits in many areas of the countries, there is concern about the effect it can cause to local people as well as to the environment. In my viewpoint, I think that the benefits of international tourism greatly outweigh its demerits.

Admittedly, there are two basic drawbacks of international tourism. Firstly, a flock of tourists at one particular famous place could cause the problem of traffic, resulting in more air and noise pollution to that area as the vehicle usage will be higher. Secondly, international tourists are likely to influence the local youth’s lifestyle. As we know young people, nowadays, gravitate towards western lifestyle and culture, so when they interact with these foreign tourists, they could cultivate an indifferent attitude, which sometimes is unacceptable in the local community.

Nevertheless, despite the demerits above, there are two major positive sides of international tourism. As well as being one of the largest growing industries, it is the main source of income in many nations. Africa’s economy, for instance, immensely depends upon the foreign tourists as revealed by one study. If tourists stop coming to this nation, there will be huge unrest in their overall economy, affecting a major portion of the country. Furthermore, international tourism plays a great role to spread local people’s culture to other countries.

As a result of this, people nowadays can intermingle with foreigners while getting a vast amount of knowledge and learning about their culture and customs. which, I think, ultimately helps to build close-knit relationships among countries.

In conclusion, although there are some flaws in international tourism, I feel that this industry has a crucial role to play in solidifying many nations’ economies, and now local people can easily establish close-ties with non-natives with its help.
