Sample Answer:

In today’s world, the rate at which natural resources are being consumed far exceeds the rate at which they can be renewed. This has led to a growing concern about the sustainability of our current consumption patterns. In light of this, there is a growing consensus that products should be made to last longer in order to reduce the strain on our natural resources. While some argue that governments should discourage people from constantly buying up-to-date or fashionable products, others believe that this approach may not be practical or effective. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of the argument and provide my opinion on the matter.

Those who advocate for making products that last longer argue that this approach would reduce the demand for new products and, in turn, decrease the rate at which natural resources are being depleted. They argue that by encouraging people to invest in high-quality, durable products, we can reduce the overall consumption of goods and minimize the environmental impact of our consumer-driven society. Additionally, they argue that this approach would also lead to cost savings for consumers in the long run, as they would not need to constantly replace their goods.

On the other hand, there are those who believe that discouraging people from buying up-to-date or fashionable products may not be a practical solution. They argue that consumer preferences and demands are constantly evolving, and it may be unrealistic to expect people to stick with the same products for extended periods of time. Additionally, they argue that innovation and new product development are essential for economic growth and job creation, and discouraging people from buying new products could have negative implications for the economy.

In my opinion, while it is important to encourage the production of longer-lasting products, it may not be feasible or effective for governments to discourage people from buying new or fashionable products. Instead, I believe that a more balanced approach is needed, which includes promoting sustainable consumption habits and incentivizing companies to produce more durable goods. Additionally, I believe that consumer education and awareness campaigns can play a crucial role in changing attitudes towards consumption and encouraging more responsible purchasing behavior. Ultimately, it is important for all stakeholders – governments, businesses, and consumers – to work together to address the challenges of resource depletion and environmental sustainability.
